With just one week until worlds, another team unexpectedly dropped out of the FIRST Championships, scheduled for April 27-30 in St. Louis. Next in line for a spot to compete, the Armadillos were invited to take their place. As the initial excitement of staff and students quelled, the reality of what would be demanded of the school district in order for the team to compete at the world event set in.
Three AISD students and Dyron Howell, founder of Amarillo’s Snack Pak 4 Kids, presented information to the Board about the Snack Shak program, a community effort that provides free weekend meals for middle and high school students and their families. The Board also heard a presentation regarding Lab Classrooms, an initiative that is being piloted at several AISD schools.
Six extraordinary educators will represent their 2,300 some odd counterparts as district finalists for the Amarillo ISD Teacher of the Year program next month. These educators epitomize the hard working staff throughout Amarillo ISD – focusing their time and attention on meeting the needs of a varied student population.
Amarillo ISD has been honored for the second time with the Best Communities for Music Education designation from the National Association of Music Merchants (NAMM) Foundation for its outstanding commitment to music education. AISD joins only 476 districts across the country, and 40 in Texas, in receiving the prestigious award in 2016.
