– Amarillo High student Taylor Haynes has been honored as Outstanding Youth in Philanthropy by the Texas Plains Chapter of The Association of Fundraising Professionals. Recognized during the National Philanthropy Day Luncheon, held November 12 in the Amarillo Civic Center, Haynes was in good company with fellow community philanthropists.

Haynes has volunteered her time to Meals on Wheels, Snack Pak 4 Kids, United Way and various other groups in the community. In the nomination letter written by her health science teacher Alecia Litchfield, Haynes is praised for her service to Amarillo. “In the time I have had her as a student, I have thoroughly enjoyed witnessing her endeavors and her testimony of good works she brings to her peers,” Litchfield wrote. “By communicating with the aging population, [Haynes] instills faith that there is compassion and understanding within the younger generation.”

For eight years, Haynes has delivered food to the same route of people with Meals on Wheels, ensuring their bellies are full and they have someone to spend time with. “Through our visits, I have been able to develop relationships with them,” Haynes said. “I have a passion for helping people in need, and I feel like each of the organizations I am a part of does just that.”

When she’s not volunteering her time with community organizations, Haynes enjoys tutoring her peers in American Sign Language and math. She also teaches ballet and works with children in her church.

“[Haynes] demonstrates an interest in health science and a passion to care for people,” Litchfield explained. “Her work will continue to reach many and the impact she leaves on her fellow students will indeed grow an interest to serve the community as well.”

Haynes plans on studying to be a nurse practitioner once she graduates from high school. “I have enjoyed learning about the health care field and what a difference it can make in someone’s life,” Haynes explained. “I enjoy caring for people and I think this field sounds like an interesting profession.”
