June 6, 2017—Amarillo ISD trustees have called for a Facilities Advisory Committee to study the district’s infrastructure needs.

Trustees on Monday wrapped a series of meetings in which they broke down district facilities into separate discussions focusing on high school, middle school and, finally, elementary campuses.

Aging infrastructure has been a concern with nearly 80 percent of AISD’s 55 campuses older than 50 years. Almost one-fourth of campuses are more than 70-years-old. Built in 1910, Mann Middle School is currently the District’s oldest campus at 107.

The Facilities Advisory Committee, which will be comprised of parents and community members, will delve further into facilities needs and future projections, recommending priorities to district staff.
