Internal Applications for Superintendent

School Board Taking Internal Applications for Superintendent
Superintendent Search

Beginning March 13, Amarillo ISD is accepting applications from qualified internal candidates for superintendent.  Current Superintendent Rod Schroder has announced his retirement effective at the end of August.

The Board of Trustees met today to approve the job posting, application process, and timelines for the superintendent search.  Internal applications will be accepted until 5 p.m. April 2.

Trustees are looking at candidates within the district first, in order to continue the system that has produced positive results both academically and in terms of cost efficiency.  The Board met with teacher representatives and key district leaders earlier this week who reinforced the desire to search for an internal candidate first.

“The Board welcomes applications for superintendent from key leaders or campus administrators in the district,” said Board President John Ben Blanchard.  “The leadership team has talented administrators who, by interviewing, could provide the Board an opportunity to make the best fit for the district going forward.”

“We’re looking for someone who will continue in the same tradition as we’ve had in recent years,” Blanchard said.  “We first need to decide if there is a qualified candidate within our own ranks.  After an internal search, we can always go outside.”

“Rod Schroder will leave an indelible imprint on the district,” Trustee Anette Carlisle said.  “We want to continue the culture of leadership he started.”

The Board plans to conduct interviews on March 31, April 1 and April 6, and plans to announce a finalist for the superintendent post later in April.

Qualified internal candidates who are interested in applying for the superintendent position can go to Job Openings on the district website:
