Principal Changes Provide New Opportunities

Principal Changes Provide Communication Opportunities
Kids Walking in Hall

August 3, 2015 – The drive to school will be a little different this year for many Amarillo ISD administrators who are starting the year at different campuses. Three assistant principals and one instructional officer are moving into principal positions, and 16 principals are relocating onto different campuses, creating fresh opportunities for growth and communication between schools and families.

One of the first year principals is Bria Galt, moving from being the assistant principal at Paramount Terrace Elementary to principal at Coronado Elementary. Education is a family business for Galt and her husband Derek, a pre-AP biology teacher and varsity coach for Tascosa High School.

Having educated children of all ages in her tenure in the district, Galt first taught English and coached at Bonham Middle School and Tascosa before becoming an assistant principal at Tascosa and Paramount Terrace. This new opportunity to lead the Coronado Conquistadors is one she takes seriously.

“I went into education because I want to make a difference in the lives of children,” Galt explains. “I want students to have opportunities as a result of their education and involvement in extracurricular activities. I want to teach them about dedication, hard work, morals and values.”

Galt is one of many administrators and educators who have a passion for the futures of students. Throughout the summer she has met with the faculty grade level teams of Coronado, discovering the inner-workings of the school and sharing with them her enthusiasm for working together.

“I consider myself a transformational instructional leader, and I want teachers to transform students and themselves and be willing to take reasonable risks to ensure students reach their full potential,” Galt shared. “I am building a positive relationship with my staff, so they feel comfortable taking risks. I want to provide them the support they need to continue to improve as a learner while taking students to new limits.”

Meet the new principal on your campus, as well as your child’s teacher, at registration and back to school night in the coming weeks.
