Seen and Heard at the April School Board Meeting
Board Meeting

April 20, 2015 – In a workshop immediately prior to the meeting, Superintendent Schroder discussed budget projections for the upcoming 2015-2016 school year, and he updated the Board on the current status of education-related bills being considered for proposal in the current state legislative session.

In regular business, trustees awarded a 5-year, annually renewable contract to Chartwells to provide the district’s school breakfast and lunch program. AISD is currently in the fifth year of a 5-year contract with Chartwells; the food service contract must be re-bid every five years. The Board approved the submission of a low attendance waiver request to the Texas Education Agency. The waiver allows the district to not count February 23 and 27 in average daily attendance (ADA) counts because attendance was significantly lower on those days due to bad weather. Trustees also approved a list of publishers to provide instructional materials for K-12 social studies and high school math.

Trustees renewed a contract with Turn Center to provide physical and occupational therapy services to students with disabilities. The Board also awarded several construction contracts for the following projects:

  • Renovations to the Tascosa High School Tennis Center at Austin Middle School.
  • Renovations to the kitchens and cafeterias at Tascosa High School and Travis Middle School.
  • Renovations to the entrance at Glenwood Elementary School.

Finally, the School Board awarded a contract to Care Today to provide annual biometric screening services for AISD employees.
