Seen and Heard at the July School Board Meeting
Seen and Heard

July 21, 2014 – Dr. Russell Lowery-Hart, vice president for academic affairs for Amarillo College, along with two AC students (who are also AISD graduates), reported to the Board about the AC Honors Program and the students’ recent trip to Cambodia.

The Board also heard a report from Amy Christie, executive director of Worth the Wait, regarding the abstinence-based education and decision-making program in AISD.  For many years now, Worth the Wait staff, along with AISD teachers trained in the program, has been visiting classrooms two or four times a year to teach the curriculum to all 6th, 7th, 8th, and 9th graders in AISD.

To meet the requirements of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, the Board approved price increases, ranging from 5 cents to 15 cents for breakfast and lunch at school.  Lunch prices are still at a very reasonable $1.95 for elementary students and $2.20 for middle and high school students.

Trustees also revised school district policies to include changes called for with new state graduation plans and new laws put in place by the 83rd Texas Legislature.
