November 20, 2017 - Superintendent Dana West introduced 5th grade Gifted & Talented students Kingsley Waterman from DeZavala Middle School, Tegan Sterling from Wills Elementary, Kaiden Tucker from Olsen Park Elementary, Walt Wing from Windsor Elementary and Bakhtawar Parvez from Sleepy Hollow Elementary, who demonstrated what they had learned at a G/T enrichment camp about using coding to program drones to fly. 

The Board approved the 2016-17 Annual Financial Report, which is the annual audit of all District funds.  Trustees also certified the returns of the November 7, $100 million bond election.  The election passed with 55 percent of the votes in favor. 

The Board also approved the purchase of two pieces of property, totaling approximately 6.5 acres, for the new 8-court Palo Duro High School Tennis Center complex, and they approved Moffitt Architectural Group as the project architect/engineer.  The total estimated cost for the Tennis Center, including cost to repave an existing parking area, is $3.9 million.

In other business, trustees approved the purchase of property at 3601 Plains Blvd. including the old Hastings warehouse and surrounding 16.5 acres of land, at a cost of $3.36 million.  They also approved a project architect/engineer for paving and concrete replacement at Allen 6th Grade Campus, Travis Middle School,  Paramount Terrace, Mesa Verde and Windsor elementary schools, and the Dick Bivins Stadium motor coach parking lot.  Finally, the Board cast votes for the Potter and Randall County Appraisal District boards of directors.

Trustees also accepted gifts and donations totaling $32,402.80, given to various schools this month from Lone Star Warehouse Amarillo Auto Supply & Off Road, Inc., Allen’s Tri-State Mechanical, La Saga Reunion 64-76, Tres Bubbas, Inc., Vic and Daisy Ragha, Vicki and Thomas Apsey, Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Fannin, Shelley Heinrich, Amarillo National Bank, and John B. Crozier, III.  Other donors are Republic Services, Panhandle Charm, Golden Corral, Tascosa Road Fellowship Church and pastors Joe and McCall Dwyer, Cry Baby, Inc., Happy State Bank, the Right Angle, Robert and Diana Lee, Olsen Park Elementary PTA, and the Bonham Middle School Music Association.
