Seen and Heard at the September School Board Meeting
School Board

September 14, 2015 - Superintendent Dana West reported accountability results to the Board:  52 of AISD’s 53 campuses “met standard” in the 2015 state accountability ratings, meaning they achieved required benchmarks in four areas – student achievement, academic improvement, closing performance gaps, and postsecondary readiness.  In addition, AISD schools received 93 academic distinctions for improvement in student performance.

Trustees also heard a report regarding dual credit and advanced placement (AP) classes and the differences between the two.

The Board officially accepted almost $8,000 worth of gifts to schools from community businesses, organizations, and individuals including Panhandle Obstetrics and Gynecology, the National Forensic League/National Speech & Debate Association, Happy State Bank, Kenneth Worsham, the Caprock High School Band Booster Club, West Texas Chivers, 4 Amarillo Coalition of Churches, 806 Coffee House, Bob Mills Furniture, Amarillo VA Hospital, and Amarillo High Orchestra Parents.

In other business, trustees approved 2015-2016 strategic plans for all AISD schools, and they approved a list of community physical activity programs that participating students can count as PE credit.  The Board also adopted a set of revised policies dealing with staff compensation, student conduct, and investments, among other things.
