– The Texas Association of Secondary Principals (TASSP) honored Tascosa High’s Dr. Lynn Pulliam as the Region 16 Outstanding Secondary Principal of the Year this summer, an award given annually at their conference in Austin, Texas. TASSP recognizes outstanding principals and assistant principals from the 20 regional education service centers in Texas each year.

“This recognition is a perfect reflection of the hard work and dedication Dr. Pulliam has put into Tascosa, its students and staff,” Tascosa Cluster Director Stan Chatman said. “Receiving this award is reflective also of the work ethic of the students and faculty at Tascosa. Dr. Pulliam has had a positive impact in the community which will last for generations.”

Dr. Pulliam has made a career of educating future generations, working in schools for 21 years. He has led Tascosa since 2008. Making a point to educate himself, Dr. Pulliam earned his Bachelor of Science from Texas Tech University, Master of Education from West Texas A&M University and Doctor of Education from Baylor University. His peers see him as a thoughtful and visionary leader of learners.

“Dr. Pulliam is a leader who allows the staff to grow in the craft of teaching. He listens to his staff and takes the time to process what needs to happen to create success,” Bowie Principal John Smith said. “I think the biggest thing that I learned from Lynn is to listen first, be slow to speak and always work toward what is best for our students."

School administrators are nominated and chosen by their peers within their regions and then applications from these recipients are reviewed by the TASSP Principal Image Committee which selects finalists. Nominations are based upon exemplary performance and outstanding leadership in secondary education. Nominations for the award can be submitted by colleagues, parents, students or self-submitted.

“We have great administrators and faculty in AISD,” Chatman explained. “These are people with an abundance of skills and strong work ethic which we hope to impress upon our future generations.”
