July 15, 2019 -- In a unanimous vote at the July 15 School Board meeting, trustees approved changing the name of Lee Elementary School to Park Hills Elementary School.  Following the typical naming pattern for AISD elementaries, Park Hills is the actual name of the subdivision in which the school is located.

Originally called Robert E. Lee Elementary School, the school’s name was officially changed to Lee Elementary in January 2018, after the School Board received a substantial amount of input on both sides of the issue.  Then, after 18 months of community conversations, soliciting feedback from parents and staff, researching possible names, reviewing and updating the Board policy concerning naming schools, and receiving an official request from the local NAACP for a name change, the Board re-considered the issue and officially changed Lee’s name to Park Hills Elementary.  The new name will take effect with the 2019-2020 school year.

Trustees also voted to interview six applicants for two vacant positions on the Board.  Both positions are two-year unexpired terms which will be up for re-election in May 2021.  Those to be interviewed include John Betancourt, Debra McCartt, Kayla Mendez, David Nance, Brad Phillips, and Claudia Stuart.  The Board received a total of 14 applications for the two vacancies.
