"WHAT KIND OF HEARING AID SHOULD MY CHILD WEAR?"
Many types of aids are available and can be selected according to your
child's particular hearing loss. Your professional audiologist can advise
you.
HEARING AID SELECTION
Most personal hearing aids are BTEs (behind the ear). Their function and
design correspond with particular types of hearing loss. For high frequency
hearing loss, aids which amplify high sounds are recommended. Low frequency
losses require amplification of low sounds.
BTEs are now available with FM application. These units provide information
to the listener through a transmitter. The device is usually worn by the
speaker. However, it can also be placed in the center of a table among a
group of people to facilitate oral communication.
