Dear Applicant:

We appreciate your interest in a position with the Amarillo Independent School District. An online application form is available online for your use (use links on the menu at left. The following information is provided to apprise you of the application procedure for employment with Amarillo ISD.

GENERAL INFORMATION

Application forms are available on this web site, under the "Online Applications" section of the menu at left. Online applications are available for CERTIFIED staff (teachers, nurses, counselors, diagnosticians, speech therapists, etc.), CLASSIFIED staff (paraprofessional, clerical, classroom assistants), and SUBSTITUTE TEACHERS. Food service applicants should apply in person at 7200 I-40 West, 2nd floor. Maintenance applicants may obtain an application at 905 East Street.

All information requested on the online application should be completed accurately and completely. Required fields are indicated and you will not be able to proceed to the next area until they are filled. You will need to send us an official transcript from every college you attended. If you have Texas certification, we will be able to access your credentials from SBEC (State Board of Educator Certification) online. If you have an out of state certification, you will need to provide us with a copy of your certificate so it can be forwarded to SBEC for review. SBEC charges a fee for this service. If you are not yet certified in Texas, but have EXCET scores, we will ask for those during the interview. Be sure to list all requested information for your references: full names, titles, correct addresses with zip codes and phone numbers. Confidential inquiry from references will be solicited by the Personnel Office.

 

CRIMINAL HISTORY RECORD INFORMATION FORM

Texas Education Code 22.083 authorizes a school district to obtain the criminal history record of every applicant for employment with Amarillo Independent School District.

PERSONAL INTERVIEWS

A personal interview with a personnel administrator is required for Certified Applicants only. It is the responsibility of the applicant to schedule an interview approximately ten days after entering an online application. You may schedule an interview with a personnel administrator by calling (806)326-1492.

RENEWAL OF APPLICATION

All online applications will remain active until November 1 of each year. Before that date you may return to your online application and update the information there as you renew your application. It is very important to remember your password and user ID for this purpose.

APPOINTMENTS TO POSITIONS
  1. Basis of appointment:
      The appointment of any person to any position shall depend solely upon qualifications as opposed to date of filing application, race, color, age, religion,sex or national origin.
  2. Time of appointments:
      Appointments for positions are made at any time of the year as the need arises but occur more frequently during the spring and summer.
  3. Degrees and Certificates:
      According to the laws of the State of Texas, every person paid for instructional work in the public schools must have registered a valid Texas Teacher's Certificate with the Personnel Office of that district. An applicant must have at least a bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university. Exceptions to the degree rule may be made for teachers of vocational and trade classes who submit trade and industrial training records in compliance with Texas EducationAgency requirements. Graduates of a Texas college or university should apply through the Certification Office of the college to secure a Texas Teacher Certificate. Out of State Certification: Those who have out-of-state certification need to work directly with the Personnel Office to obtain Texas Certification at the time of employment. This will involve completing the proper forms for application, supplying the Personnel Office with official transcripts, a copy of the out-of-state certificate and a money order or cashier's check made out to SBEC-CRT in the amount of $225. After completion of these requirements, the State Board for Educator Certification of the Texas Education Agency will issue a one-year Texas Teacher's Certificate and a deficiency plan which must be met. In most cases, the only deficiency will be the ExCET test. This test is administered by the National Evaluation System, Inc., and there will be ADDITIONAL fees for each test.
  4. Offer of employment (Contract):
      An offer of employment is given the applicant subject to the Superintendent's recommendation and approval by the Board of Education as required by state law. Professional employees are employed by contractfor a term of one year. The first three years of continuous employment in the District are considered to be a probationary period.
  5. Career Ladder:
      SB7 abolished the Teacher Career Ladder as of August 31, 1993. Teachers who transfer to a new district after September 1, 1993, automatically surrender entitlement to any Career Ladder-related compensation benefits.
  6. Retirement Plan:
      All employees must participate in the Texas State Teacher Retirement System. Although employees do not participate in the Social Security System, new employees are required to participate in the FICA Medicare Program.
