Dr. Michael Eck, class of 1981

While at AHS, Michael Eck played tuba in the band, performed the role of John Proctor in the drama department’s production of The Crucible, was a member of the debate team, science club, National Honor Society, and Ken Club and president of the Key Club.  Dr. Eck received a Bachelor of Science degree in Electrical Engineering, cum laude, in 1985 from Rice University.  He completed the M.D./Ph.D. program at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical School in Dallas in 1991.  He has since been recognized as a Distinguished Alumnus, and received the Scholar Award from the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in 2002.  Dr. Eck’s primary focus is research, directing a group of scientists at the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, with the goal of designing potentially life-saving pharmaceuticals in the treatment of leukemias and other cancers.  Dr. Eck also teaches both medical students and graduate students at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Harvard Medical School.  He resides in Westford, Massachusetts, with his two children and frequently visit Amarillo with his father, Dr. Harold V. Eck
