The Teen Age Pregnancy and Parenting (TAPP) Program

The Teen Age Pregnancy and Parenting (TAPP) Program is offered within Amarillo ISD in order to produce responsible, effective parents and provide their children with a comprehensive program to met their individual needs.  The TAPP program provides four separate and distinct services.

Pregnancy, Education and Parenting
Support services designed to prevent pregnant and/or parenting students from dropping out of school and to recover those students whom have already left school.
Services are:
  • Counseling -  each student will be provided individual and peer counseling, and self-help programs
  • Job Readiness Training/Career Counseling
  • Child Care at a licensed child care facility
  • Transportation of students' children to and from campus or child care facility
  • Instruction in skills and knowledge for parenting and child development
  • Assistance in obtaining service from government agencies or community service organization, including prenatal and postnatal health and nutrition programs
Pregnancy Related Services
Any school age female who is pregnant is eligible for services.  Academic services may be provided at home or hospital bedside when pregnancy prevents the student from attending school.  Home instruction may be provided during the prenatal period but must be provided during the postpartum period.
Services are:
  • Counseling services, including individual, peer, self-help, and career guidance
  • School and other health services
  • Transportation for the student, as appropriate, to and from the campus, child care facility where existent children of the student are cared for, community service agency, and place of employment
  • Assistance in obtaining services from government agencies and community service organizations
  • Instruction relates to knowledge and skills in child development, parenting, and appropriate job readiness training
  • Child care for the student's existing child(ren) 
  • Transportation for student's existing child(ren) to and from campus, child care facility, or community service agencies
  • Case management, service coordination, and specialized counseling
  • Compensatory Education Home Instruction
