1.       Information to be included:

a.         define folic acid

b.        search for types of food that contain folic acid in its “natural form”.  Name 5 excellent sources of folic acid.  List number of milligrams in each type of food.

c.         Discover the recommended amount of folic acid that should be consumed each day.  Is there an amount that is too much?

d.        List and discuss types of birth defects that folic acid can prevent.

e.         Determine the best time to take folic acid.

f.          List two research studies concerning folic acid and the results.

2.      Using Web Publisher or Microsoft Word, create a newsletter.  You must include:

a.         at least 3 columns

b.        graphics

c.         resources (minimum 3)

d.        different fonts and colors

1.        Use a search engine (askjeeves.com; yahoo.com; googles.com) to locate information on the Internet – keywords are folic acid, folate, birth defects.

2.        Dietician at a local hospital.

3.        Obstetrician or Family Practice physician

4.        State Department of Health
