Local Operating Guidelines

Assignment Of Special Education Personnel to Duties Supportive of School Operations

Assignments of special education personnel may include duties supportive to school operations "equivalent" to those assigned to regular education personnel." 19 TAC Section 89.1125(a)

"Equivalent" shared duties can be assigned -- if -- the assignment does not:

  • jeopardize the ability of the district /campus to appropriately implement a student's IEP
  • jeopardize the ability of the district /campus to appropriately implement a special education program
  • conflict with the primary duties of the special education staff member

Meeting special education program and student IEP needs should always be given priority when making duty assignments of special education personnel.
