Vocational Adjustment
Class (VAC)
- Student must have taken all
End Of Course exams, Exit Level TAKS or the ARD has addressed all End of
Course or Exit Level TAKS exams before being considered for VAC.
- Student must be 16 years or
older
- Students must have junior or
senior status for part-time employment
- Students must have senior
status for full-time employment
- While the student is
employed, they will have 1 hour of contact time each week with the VAC
teacher. Contact time may be in person, by phone, at the job site or in a
class.
- If a student does not find
employment or looses employment, the student will have 10 school days to
obtain employment either on their own or with the assistance of the VAC
teacher
- After 10 school days, if
employment is not found, the student will start the interim schedule of
services that was determined by the ARD. If no interim schedule of services
was developed, an ARD will be held to develop the schedule of services.
Interim schedule of services may be one of the following:
- Return to school with a
full day of instruction.
- See at least 2 employers
a day until hired. The student will meet (face to face) with the VAC
teacher a minimum of 1 hour per week. Students will be required to turn
in signed statements from employers, during the face to face meeting
with the VAC teacher, signifying that the student came looking for a
job. At the end of each six weeks, the VAC teacher will need to
evaluate whether to recommend to the ARD that the student needs to
return to school full day.
- A student who loses a job
must be provided with a full instructional day during the time he or she is
without a job. A student may not stay at home during the time in which he
or she was previously on the job. (TEA Student Attendance Accounting
