A district budget of $250,570,676 was adopted for the 2016-17 fiscal year, beginning July 1. A two percent staff raise was approved by the board. Overcrowding concerns at Tradewind Elementary led to boundary changes for schools in the area, with Lawndale and Glenwood now receiving more students than before. Funds provided through School Bond 2013 will see the design and build of a new elementary school in southeast Amarillo, which is set to open in August 2018.
Some Amarillo ISD elementary campuses will make slight adjustments to their bell schedules for the 2016-2017 school year. Changes are being communicated by campus principals in letters going out to parents this week and will be posted on campus websites.
Tradewind Elementary has become the first campus in Amarillo and just the 21st in Texas, to earn the prestigious Leader in Me Lighthouse School milestone from the Franklin Covey Company. The campus now sports the official banner signifying the achievement, after a special presentation at the school on Tuesday, May 24.
