Amarillo ISD Police Chief and Officer Recognized for Saving Lives
October 20, 2025 – The Amarillo ISD Board of Trustees presented newly appointed Chief Ramey Rice and Officer Yadira Arroyo with a Life-Saving Commendation award.

On September 12, 2025, at Dick Bivins Stadium, Officer Rice responded swiftly to a medical emergency involving a spectator who had gone into cardiac arrest. With exceptional skills and composure, he performed life-saving measures that successfully resuscitated the individual. Chief Rice’s quick action, professionalism, and commitment to public safety truly exemplify the highest standards of service.

Yadira Arroyo, Amarillo ISD Police Officer
On August 19, 2025, Officer Arroyo responded promptly to an emergency involving a staff member who was choking. With calm precision, compassion, and skills, she performed life-saving measures that successfully saved the staff member’s life. Officer Arroyo’s swift response, professionalism, and dedication reflect the very best of AISD Police and the heart of our District’s priority of safety and security.
