January 9, 2026 – Amarillo High School senior and champion debater Hayden Brillhart won the state championship in the UIL 5A State Student Congress tournament on Thursday, January 8 in Austin. This win is the first state championship in this event for an AISD student. Tascosa’s Hudson Turman placed third in the same event, meaning AISD students hold two of the top 3 spots in this event for 5A schools in the state of Texas.
