Senior Awarded National Merit Scholarship

May 20, 2026 – The National Merit Scholarship Corporation announced that Amarillo High School senior Quan Nguyen is a National Merit $2,500 Scholarship Winner. The 2,500 National Merit Scholar designees were chosen from a pool of more than 15,000 finalists in the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program, according to the corporation.
High school juniors entered the 2026 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT®), which served as an initial screen of program entrants.
Earning the title of National Merit Finalist places a student among the top scorers in the country on the PSAT, representing fewer than one percent of the nation’s graduating seniors in the class of 2026.
AISD is the only area school system to consistently produce National Merit Scholars, year after year.
Quan plans to attend Rice University.
