All Other AISD Families: Use The Transfer Form Below

  • The form link in this section is for a transfer requested to take place and be active for the 2025-2026 school year.

    • Transfer request forms, for the 2025-2026 school year, have a priority deadline of May 1, 2025

    • Transfer applications submitted after May 1 will be considered after the original group of applications. Please view the Policy & Signature tab of the transfer form for more information.

⚠️ Please Read Before Using The Form Link
Fill out only one transfer form per student—Do NOT fill out a new transfer form if you submitted a form and then realized that you had made an error. We have a way for you to edit an existing, submitted transfer request form:

    • You will notice that on the initial screen, on the right side, is an entry field labeled “Control Number”

    • When you are filling out the transfer form, you will see that your email address is a required field in the form
      • Please provide your email address. Do not use a decoy email address.
      • This needs to be a real, working email address that you can access

    • After submitting a transfer form, an email message will be sent to the email account you provided within the transfer form

    • The email message will contain your unique “Control Number” which is used in one of two situations:
      • You can access the Upcoming School Year 2025-2026 Transfer Form again, enter the Control Number, and then edit the information within the form and re-submit the form that now has your recent edits applied

      • Or, in the event that you are unaware of changes that need to be made, an AISD staff member might contact you to ask you to make edits to your transfer form. You will access the form, similar to the situation above, and you will use your Control Number to load your submitted transfer form so that you can edit and re-submit the form.

  • Out of District (Interdistrict) Transfer Information

A nonresident student (student who lives outside the Amarillo ISD boundaries) who wants to attend school in AISD can also apply for a transfer. This is called an interdistrict transfer.

    • Interdistrict transfer requests are considered if there is still space available at a school after all intradistrict transfer requests have been considered

    • Parents will receive notification of whether their transfer request was accepted or denied at least two weeks before the first day of school

    • Transfers are good for one school year only; a student on transfer to a particular school must reapply for a transfer each year

    • Ordinarily, nonresident students pay a tuition fee to transfer into another district. However, transfer students may request a tuition waiver.
      • Current practice in AISD is to waive tuition for out-of-district transfers

      • For more information about interdistrict transfers, refer to Board Policy FDA (LOCAL) (Page opens in a new window), or contact your campus principal

    • Transportation for students who are granted a transfer into AISD is the responsibility of the parents or guardian

    Within District (Intradistrict) Transfer Information

All Amarillo ISD students are guaranteed admission to the schools in the attendance area in which they live. Students may, however, apply for a transfer from one AISD school to another school within AISD. This is called an intradistrict transfer.

    • After taking into account enrollment projections and the capacity of a campus (physical space and staffing), intradistrict transfer requests are considered according to a list of priorities

    • Parents will receive notification of whether their transfer request was accepted or denied at least two weeks before the first day of school

    • Transfers are good for one school year only; a student on transfer to a particular school must reapply for a transfer each year

    • Transportation for intradistrict transfer students is the responsibility of the parent or guardian

Please Note: A student in kindergarten through grade 4 enrolled on a transfer may be returned to his or her home campus no later than three weeks after the first day of instruction if the current class size ratio goes over the state mandated 22:1 (22 students per teacher).

For more information about intradistrict transfers, refer to Board Policy FDB (LOCAL) (Opens in new window), or contact your campus principal.

General Information: Questions & Answers

  • Principals will notify parents via email no later than two weeks prior to the beginning of the school year whether their transfer request has been approved or denied.

  • Transportation for all students who are attending an AISD school on transfer (whether in district or out of district) is the responsibility of the parent/guardian.

  • Yes, a student who moves from one attendance area to another, or who moves out of AISD, may either choose to remain at the original school for the remainder of the current school year or attend the new school immediately.

  • Not necessarily. For all transfer request applications, May 1 is the priority deadline for the next school year. There are certain priorities that will be considered first. For example, (a) students who are entitled by law to a transfer; (b) students who are children of District employees who work at the campus to which student is seeking to transfer; (c) students who have completed the previous year at the school (to which they are seeking transfer); (d) students attending a feeder school of the campus in the previous year; (e) students who are children of AISD employees (and do not qualify under "b"  above); and (f) students who are siblings of current students enrolled at the campus. After all intradistrict transfers have been considered, and if there is still space available, schools may consider interdistrict transfer requests. Transfer applications submitted after May 1 will be considered after the original group of applications.

  • Possible reasons for denial of an intradistrict transfer request include, but are not limited to:

    1. Maximum enrollment on a campus has been reached.

    2. The student wishes to avoid disciplinary action at his or her current school.

    3. Class size limits would be exceeded.

    4. The student has engaged in conduct or misbehavior within the preceding year that resulted in removal to a disciplinary alternative education program (DAEP).

    5. The student has had attendance issues at his or her previous school.

  • Yes. If an intradistrict transfer request is denied, the parent or guardian may appeal the decision in writing to the District Hearing Officer within ten days of notification of denial. In the case of an interdistrict transfer request, any appeals should be made in accordance with the standard complaint process, outlined in Board policies FNG(LOCAL) and GF(LOCAL).

  • A transfer student in high school is eligible for athletics and UIL sponsored activities under the UIL transfer rules. If a student changes residence from one high school attendance area to another, the student may choose to retain UIL eligibility at the original school and continue to attend and participate there, or attend the new school, subject to the UIL transfer rule. For more information, call the AISD Athletic Office at (806) 326‐1101.

  • Once a student starts the school year at his or her neighborhood school or another school on transfer, the choice cannot be changed during that school year except in the case of a hardship. It is up to the principal at the receiving school whether or not to approve the transfer.

Learn more about this topic in the Hardship Transfer section and School Safety Transfer section further down the web page.

  • No. A student in grades K – 4 who has attended a school on transfer for at least two complete and consecutive years and any siblings at the same school are exempt from being returned to the home campus if the return is for reasons of class size or building capacity compliance. Even though a student is exempt from being returned to his or her home campus, the application for transfer must be resubmitted each year.

Hardship Transfers

Once a student has enrolled in the school serving his or her neighborhood or in another school on transfer, the choice may not be changed during that school year except in the case of a hardship. If a parent wishes to establish a hardship, specific reasons for the transfer request must be stated on the transfer application form. Hardship transfer requests are considered on a case-by-case basis throughout the school year.

School Safety Transfers

In accordance with Board Policy FDB (LEGAL) (page opens in new window) parents may request that their child be transferred to another classroom or campus if the District has determined that the student has been a victim of bullying, sexual assault by another student, or a violent criminal offense while at school or on school grounds. Also in accordance with legal policy and in consultation with the parent, the School Board may transfer a student who engaged in bullying to another classroom or campus. (Board policies FFI (page opens in new window) and FDE (page opens in new window).) For more information, refer to the AISD Student Handbook in our Students section of this website, or call your campus principal.
