5 Questions with Debbie Plunk

December 3, 2025 – As founder and co-director of the Tascosa Belles, Debbie Plunk has been there since day one. The Tacosa Belles just returned from performing in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade. We wanted to know what the experience was like, so we asked Debbie about that and more!
Q: As founder of the Tascosa Belles, tell us who or what your inspiration was?
As a Drill Team girl myself, I wanted students to have the same opportunities that I did throughout high school. I feel like drill/dance teams help mold young ladies to be productive members of society. It gives them accountability and responsibility that allow them to thrive beyond their high school years.
Q: What’s it like being surrounded by millions of people lining the streets (and millions more watching on TV) during the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade?
The girls were told that there would be 53 million viewers watching either in person or on national television, which is an experience that they will take with them for the rest of their lives. The best word to describe the experience would be surreal.
Q: What do you hope the Belles take away from the experience of being in the national spotlight in such a prestigious way?
In addition to the parade, the girls learned how to operate in a major city, giving them life experiences that can help them in their future endeavors. Also, the girls learned that hard work and determination will lead to more positive experiences such as this.
Q: About those high kicks… is that the most difficult skill to teach?
While we try to teach a variety of difficult dance choreography, the high kick is what we are known for so we naturally will spend the most time practicing the precision of high kicks.
Q: What is the best advice you’ve ever been given?
Do the best that you can do and never compare yourself to others.
