Frequently Asked Questions

We’re here to help you get the most out of your experience. Check out our FAQs for simple, straightforward answers to the questions we hear most often.

  • The AISD guidelines state there are no approved AI sites for elementary and middle school students.

  • Most AI is designed for a specific task, like recognizing your face to unlock your phone, asking a virtual assistant like Siri to play a song, or having Google maps estimate your arrival time for your trip. Generative AI is a newer type that can create new and original content. When you ask a tool like Google Gemini to write a poem, DALL-E to draw a picture, or a music app to compose a song, you are using generative AI.

  • The use of generative AI is permitted on a case-by-case basis, as determined by each individual teacher. Always check with your teacher before using a generative AI tool for an assignment.

  • While AI tools are allowed to be used for providing immediate feedback to students, any assignment that will be entered into the Skyward gradebook to be counted towards the students' Grade Point Average (GPA) is prohibited from being graded by any AI tool.

  • No. You should never enter personal, private, or sensitive information into a public AI tool. This includes your full name, address, phone number, passwords, or personal details about yourself or others. Assume that anything you type can be seen by the company and used for training.

Use only district-approved tools for schoolwork, which have been vetted for data privacy.

  • Protecting student and staff data is our top priority. Our district uses Gemini for Education, which is part of our secure Google Workspace environment and has different (and much stricter) privacy rules than the free, public version of Gemini.

  • An "AI hallucination" occurs when gen AI generates false, inaccurate, or nonsensical information, often presenting it as fact. Verification is required because the district mandates that all users critically evaluate and cross-reference AI output with reliable academic sources. The user is ultimately responsible for the accuracy and veracity of the content utilized.

  • Yes, AI can be biased. Because it learns from massive amounts of text and images from the internet, it can reflect the stereotypes and prejudices found there. Learning to question and fact check AI generated content will make you a smarter, more responsible critical thinker.
