Crockett Middle School

The Crockett Middle School Pioneer Band has a long-standing tradition of excellence in music. The band strives to develop a passion for music and success in adulthood through the work and dedication required to achieve musical excellence. Pioneer Band members leave middle school with significant growth in discipline, coordination, logical reasoning, problem solving, conceptualization, and emotional development.

The band provides a large number of performance opportunities including pep rallies, solo and ensemble contest, UIL Concert and Sight-Reading Contest, holiday concerts, elementary tours, and community performances. Crockett’s faculty, administration, and community are very supportive of the band program and are tremendous contributing factors to its continuing success.

Director Barry Blackwell is the band director at Crockett Middle School in Amarillo, TX. He is a native of Amarillo and a graduate of Amarillo High School and West Texas A&M University in Canyon, TX. Mr. Blackwell was part of the Amarillo High School Sandie Band under the direction of Roger Edwards and studied euphonium under Dr. Joseph Cox and Dr. Jeremy Lewis while doing undergraduate work at WT. Before returning to Amarillo, he taught beginner brass and the varsity band in El Campo, TX. He, his wife Elizabeth, and their daughter are excited to be back in Amarillo where his passion for music began.
