10 Things to Know About Back to School

July 20, 2020 – Amarillo ISD is working to develop back-to-school plans that are safe and productive for students and staff. Using guidance from the Texas Education Agency and state and local health authorities we’ve created these priorities families can expect to see when school resumes.

  1. AISD school buildings will be open 5-days a week but families will have the opportunity to make a choice for in-person or virtual instruction.
  1. Pardon the quip… virtual and in-person Instruction will be virtually the same. In either setting, students will be held accountable for completing the same grade-level/degree-plan curriculum. AISD is exploring and securing a number of online instructional materials, resources and platforms to support both virtual and in-person settings.
  1. AISD will adhere to the Governor’s Executive Order requiring face-covering. AISD will encourage the use of face-shields to better support the instructional process. For preventive measures, AISD will heighten hygiene and disinfecting protocols by:
  • Employing a COVID-19 screener for students and staff before entering facilities
  • Implementing essential hygiene habits [Hand washing/Sanitizer Use]
  • Teaching and urging appropriate social distancing standards
  1. The District will provide a technology device for all students [1st – 12 grades] and is committed to broadband solutions for as many students who need it as possible.
  1. AISD will strongly encourage those students participating in extracurricular activities to attend school in-person but will not require it.
  1. AISD is working on a new platform that will allow us to change from in-person to virtual learning quickly if necessary.
  1. AISD is committed to a standard learning system for students in either environment whether in-person or virtually.
  1. Some courses will only be available in-person as school begins in August.
  1. AISD will implement social distancing efforts as space allows, and will monitor and revise those efforts as necessary.
  1. AISD is committed to communicate with parents to support the educational process, establish effective dialogue between teachers and parents, and keep parents updated with the latest information.
