Applications Extended for Amarillo ISD WIT Program

October 19, 2020, updated October 26, 2020— Applications are now open for Amarillo ISD’s Workforce Industry (WIT) Program. Applicants must be a sophomore, junior or senior in order to apply.

The WIT program is aimed at high school students interested in expanding their knowledge and understanding and/or careers in science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM). It provides opportunities for mentoring and encouragement to prepare students for life and success after high school in STEM fields.

Students who participate in this program will also get the opportunity to visit local industry partners, tour universities and community colleges and participate in community service.

“This program exposes students to the many STEM-rich opportunities available to them through higher education across the state of Texas, either through college and university or through technical certifications. Students get to hear from researchers in STEM fields, both locally and statewide, and expand their knowledge about job opportunities available to them,” said Cayla Cielencki, AISD science core curriculum assessment specialist and a sponsor for the program. “Not only that, the program also allows students to build positive relationships through support networks between themselves, their peers and the adults around them.”

In order to be considered for the program, applicants must meet the following requirements:

  • Be a 10th, 11th or 12th grade student in Amarillo ISD
  • Have at least a 2.0 GPA
  • Must be interested in pursuing a STEM degree/career
  • Submit a membership application through this Google Form AND submit a FlipGrid interview (using their student email adress) by November 4, 2020 at 8:30 p.m.
  • Existing members of the program are asked to just fill out the Google Form.

All accepted members will be notified by email on November 6, 2020.
