AISD Hosts Discussions on Career Academy Concept

January 14, 2019—Amarillo ISD invites the community to help shape the future of education and the area’s workforce by learning about and offering feedback on the concept of a career academy.

The District is considering expanding education in the fields of science, technology, engineering and math, or STEM, as well as hands-on career training to meet the growing need for skilled workers in the community.

After reaching out to business and community leaders from the Amarillo Economic Development Corporation, Xcel Energy, Bell Helicopter and others, a concept was developed to create a new school focused on STEM, coding and career training. The academy, which would be housed in the former Hastings operations facility on Plains Boulevard, would advance career training options and opportunities to further the mission of graduating students prepared for life and success beyond high school.  The District is seeking student, parent, staff and community input, which will be used to plan the next steps in this potential project.

Opportunities to learn more and join the discussion are planned for the following dates and times:

January 17, 2019              6:00 p.m.             Caprock High School Auditorium

January 23, 2019              6:00 p.m.             Palo Duro High School Auditorium
