Middle School Staff Work Plans

Middle School Staff Work Plans

Governor Abbott has closed schools effective until April 3, 2020. Home-based learning is still a requirement. Our goal is to ensure our students have access to learning while limiting the spread of COVID-19.

Curriculum:

  • Emphasis first will be in the core content subjects. The district core curriculum coordinators have been working on a template for two weeks of instruction. To assist student learning from home, lessons will center around prior learning and priority TEKS. High School credit-bearing courses (Professional Communications, Spanish) and other electives will be added if school closure is extended. This will allow us to “get our feet wet” and work out kinks. Hopefully, we will be back in school on April 6th.
  • All curriculum will be available for staff members on the AISD website under the COVID-19 tab. Students and parents will have access on Friday, March 27th.
  • NO ONLINE ASSIGNMENTS MAY BE PUSHED TO STUDENTS VIA GOOGLE CLASSROOM BEFORE FRIDAY MARCH 27th (Per Special Education Guidelines, all students must gain access to the curriculum at the same time.)
  • Students who have broadband access and a laptop/computer at home can access online learning.
  • Students who do not have broadband access and a device will need a packet of hard copy curriculum.
  • Chromebooks will not be checked out to students at this time.

Teachers:

  • Teachers who do not have a laptop/computer at home can check out a Chromebook. They need to email their principal so that principals can devise a checkout system that complies with social distancing. Please be sure to record the asset number and serial number of the Chromebook.
  • Teachers need to be available Monday-Friday from the hours of 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. to respond to student questions and support learning. Students may contact teachers via Google Classroom or the teacher’s district email. Teachers also may have a variety of communication tools that they normally use during the school year, i.e. Google Meet, Remind, AISD Google email, phone call, etc.
  • Teacher expectations from home will be to communicate with students weekly. Additional teachers and staff members will also assist in contacting students. Depending on the volume of needed assistance that a teacher might receive, teachers should respond to student questions within 24 hours.
  • Counselors, SpEd teachers, Dyslexia Interventionists, and any other staff who provide specialized services should check their emails regularly during the hours of 9:00 a.m - 3:00 p.m., Monday - Friday. Students needing assistance will correspond through email or campus communication methods to request support. Depending on the volume of needed assistance received, staff members will have 24 hours to respond.
  • Counselors, SpEd teachers, Speech pathologists, and other staff who provide FAPE related services will communicate with students and parents on a systematic basis to ensure continuity of services.
  • All other staff (Electives, Interventionists, Librarian, CAS, paraprofessionals, etc.) may be asked to support campus needs from home (and on a voluntary basis at the campus), such as parent-student communication, online professional development, and campus work.
  • Teachers may be needed to work in small groups, preferably on a volunteer basis, to support essential at-home learning or other essential district operations.
  • For students who are utilizing Google Classroom, teachers will monitor online work and submissions. For students who use the packet method, students will be expected to complete and save all their work. Once we return to school, students will receive information regarding submission of their work. Teachers may communicate other ways for students to submit assignments.
  • Teachers can contact their Digital Learning Specialists by email for support.
  • Staff members not specifically assigned above will receive at-home duty assignments from their supervisor. Supervisors will be in contact with these staff members via phone or email.

Survey:

The following survey will go out to all parents:

  1. Choose the statement below that describes how you would like your child to receive learning at home.
    • My child has internet access at home and a device (computer, laptop, etc.) capable of receiving and completing school assignments.
    • My child does not have Internet access at home and will need a paper packet of assignments.
  2. My child is under the age of 18 and would like to participate in the school breakfast program. (Y/N)
  3. My child is under the age of 18 and would like to participate in the school lunch program (Y/N)
  4. My child currently participates in the Snack Pak/Shak Program (Y/N)

Students without Technology/Hard Copy Curriculum:

  • Materials will be printed by the district print shop and delivered to the campus pick-up sites by bus on Thursday, March 26th.
  • Packets will be available for pick-up by parents at campus sites on Friday, March 27th. Pick-up will be from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m - 8:00 pm.
  • Principals, assistant principals, campus volunteers and/or essential identified staff will need to be available at the campuses to assist with passing out the packets by a drive-through process. This can be as simplistic as placing a table outside of the bus door to place materials on as parents pull up.
  • Packets will be organized by grade level.

Snack Paks:

  • Buses will deliver Snack Paks at 6:00 a.m. on Friday, March 27th. Snack Paks will be available for pick-up by parents at campus sites for currently participating students at the same time instructional packets are available: Pick-up will be from 7:00 a.m. - 9:00 a.m., 11:00 a.m. - 1:00 p.m. and 6:00 - 8:00 p.m.
  • We anticipate there will be a limited amount of additional Snack Paks for students who are currently not participating, but are in need of a Snack Pak.
