LOCAL OPERATING GUIDELINES FOR

SPECIAL EDUCATION CLASSES


AISD shall ensure that a continuum of alternative placements is available to meet the needs of eligible children (ages - birth through the school year the student turns 22 years old) with disabilities for special education and related services.


Adapted Curriculum Class (ACC)

For students who need adapted academic, home, community, and/or pre-vocational skills. Less restrictive environments have not been successful or there is documentation to indicate LRE placements would not be appropriate.

Pre-School Program for Children with Disabilities (PPCD)

For pre-school age students who are eligible for special education services and for whom direct classroom instruction is needed.

Amarillo Cluster:

  • Belmar Elementary (1/2 day PPCD) (1/2 day Medically Fragile)
  • Ridgecrest
  • South Georgia Elementary
  • Windsor Elementary (2) (Autism)

Caprock Cluster:

  • Lawndale Elementary 
  • Tradewind Elementary (Inclusion/EPP)

Palo Duro Cluster:

  • Whittier Elementary (2)

Tascosa Cluster:

  • Carver Early Childhood Academy
  • Coronado Elementary (Inclusion/EPP)
  • San Jacinto Elementary (2)

Resource Classes

For students who need pull out special education services and mainstream instruction has not been successful or there is documentation to indicate LRE would not be appropriate.

  • Located on each AISD campus.

 


Behavior Classes

For students who need an environment that facilitates emotional growth and developmentally appropriate coping skills where less restrictive environments have not been successful or there is documentation to indicate LRE would not be appropriate.

Vocational Adjustment Class (VAC) 

For those high school students who will need pre-vocational, academic, and vocational training to be prepared for the world of work by the time of graduation.
